Furled

Fern frond unfurling

Living in a beautiful place like Tasmania means that there is endless inspiration very close to home. Mt Wellington is just a few minutes from where I live and has a great range of habitats. This is from of my first outings with my macro lens in a wet sclerophyll forest. ¬†Lush green undergrowth filled with ferns and bryophytes are a macro photographer’s dream – as long as you can get enough light on the subject. I like taking mine hand-held, which means my DoF is often shallow.
I cannot recall exactly, however judging by the colour – and experience – it is likely that this fern is the tree fern Dicksonia antarctica.
